Thoughts from nobody...

Autopsy of Failure

I've thought a lot about why SHOCK.THE.SYSTEM. 1.0 failed. I think the biggest thing is that it wasn't an "APP". You couldn't just click on it on your phone, you had to make an effort to go out to the site. What happened to us? When did curiosity get thrown away? That used to be what the internet was all about, discovering something cool. Now it's more about being fed content through an algorithm. A company TELLS you what you need to see. They feed you ads based on how you interact with the infinite scroll. I think another thing I learned is that people don't actually want to curate and create something of their own anymore, they want to be drip fed dopamine. They want to feed on the outrage and whatever the latest culture war is. The Myspace days where you created your own little slice of the internet doesn't really matter to people anymore. I don't know. I spent a lot of time creating that site from scratch, and here I am ditching it. Maybe I can turn it into something else later, but since I was the only one using it, what was the point of keeping it around?

The Architecture of Silence

We're now afraid to say what we're thinking. What kind of freedom is that?
